During the last thirty years, Julie N. Gordon has been helping women transform how they think about marriage, weight issues, and discouragement. The natural, downhill inclinations in those areas are for marriages to unzip, for women to eat for entertainment and self-soothing (versus eating for hunger and nutrition), and for women to focus on “what’s missing and what’s disappointing”—causing colossal discouragement. Julie’s books reverse those negative natural inclinations by renewing the mind with truth.
Julie held her first mentoring group in 1989. The group consisted of five women that met in her den for three years, many of those meetings happening at 6:00 a.m. Ten years ago, while hosting three different groups of five women, God granted Julie the final secrets of helping women transform their marriages. During that time, the passion to write Wife School, Where Women Learn the Secrets of Making Husbands Happy was birthed. Julie desires to help thousands of Christian women understand that they can quantumly change their marriage if they learn the lessons in Wife School.
Julie’s second book, Skinny School: Where Women Learn the Secrets to Finally Get Thin Forever was released on Amazon.com in early 2015. Her next book, Husband School, Where Men Learn the Secrets to Making Wives Happy (co-written with her husband, David) is now available. Future books include Happy School: How to Overcome What’s Missing and Disappointing in Your Life and many others, God willing.
Julie married her husband, David, in 1983. From 1985 to 1996, Julie and David had six children. Elizabeth is now 32 (married to Trent Gullett), Stephen is 31 (married to Elaina), Joseph is 29, Jonathan is 26, Benjamin is 24, and Samuel is 22. Julie and David home schooled their children for eleven years. During that time, David served as the trial attorney for Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA). He is now in private practice in Memphis. The Gordons are members of Harvest Church in Germantown, Tennessee.
In 1976, Julie graduated from the University of Memphis with a degree in Journalism. After reading Mere Christianity (C. S. Lewis) and Evidence That Demands a Verdict (Josh McDowell) in 1980, she became a Christian and the world as she knew it, was turned upside down. In 1983, Julie received a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from the University of Memphis and developed an obsessive desire to read and learn about Christianity, relationships, family, weight issues, and depression/discouragement. For the last two years, Julie has spent the majority of her free time learning Apologetics.
On any given day, you can find Julie writing in her bedroom, cooking (Paleo), going to the gym (still an effort), or texting her kids (even if they don’t always text back).
